Guest Post by Sarah Butland

Today I'm pleased to announce that Sarah, author of Arm Farm, has kindly written a guest post for me. She will be hosting a stop on my Blitz later this week but for now here is her post!

Book Touring Without Leaving Your Home

Social media, the Internet, a poor economy all contribute to making creative minds even more creative. Book tours are not the same as they were 15 years ago unless it’s for best-selling authors and even then tours have changed dramatically.

Now, without leaving their homes, authors can visit parts of the world they’ve only dreamed of, connecting with other authors and readers in many creative ways that are much more cost effective. And with the $0.99 promotions happening to improve sales every penny counts when it comes to making a living from your passion.
I know readers who have invited authors into their home while being on the other side of the country or world. With Skype it can feel like a one-on-one session without having to serve the authors wine of choice and the readers still get the same quality information from it.

The most common example of a virtual tour is guest posting, like I’m doing now. With blogs being an outlet for a lot of authors to find readers, more and more are wanting new audiences and getting them by sharing other authors with you. By interviewing, letting the other author take over or reviewing their books, readers can easily find new books and authors to read as recommended by authors they already love.
And, of course, there’s social media where you can friend your favourite author who wasn’t easily accessible before. In turn you can win great stuff from these authors that’s exclusive to their friends or followers and be the first to know about a new book release. This is great for authors are we can encourage these fans to promote, share and review our works easily to readers who wouldn’t otherwise hear of it.
So if you’re a reader who wants to get to know the author you’re reading outside of their books there are many ways now to do that. Invite them to your next book club meeting, find them on Facebook or Twitter, ask them to Skype a family member for their birthday.

The world has bridged the gap between author and reader, take the time to discover how and meet your favourite author.

Please visit me at to support myself and many other authors. This month as everyone heads back to school, the leaves start changing colour and the air brings a chill I am bringing you lots of reading material in hopes you'll find something you love to read. While I am putting forth a huge effort to bring awareness to my own books I understand that everyone wants something different to read. Please show a huge welcome to all my guests by commenting and checking out their books.
