Interview
  1. Hi, thank you for agreeing to an interview! Firstly why don’t you tell us a little about yourself and what you like to do when you’re not writing?

There is such a thing as not writing? Really? No, seriously when I’m not writing I’ve got two kids, two dogs and an absent minded husband that I have to chase around—which is why I try to stick to writing as much as I can.

  1. When and what made you decide to become an author?

I don’t know if I actually decided. I always sort of tinkered around with writing as a hobby and it was something I wanted to improve at so when someone suggested an editing class to me I jumped at the idea. Then, at the end of the class the editor teaching it offered to buy the book I’d been working on and it all sort of snowballed from there. Now I’m just making it up as I go along.

  1. What do you enjoy most about writing?

Young Adult Paranormal Romance/ Sci-Fi
Date Published: 10/11/2013

Hidden powers. Otherworldly boyfriends. FORBIDDEN SECRETS.

For Aislinn Moore, attending college at seventeen isn’t a big deal. Not when compared to the difficulties associated with seeing ethereal beings and having prophetic dreams.

As Aislinn learns to surmount the obstacles of her talents, she awakens something inside herself—an ancient memory, long forgotten. She senses there are reasons for her gifts, but remains unable to understand them.

When Alexander Welch enters her life, she learns of the Ewlishash—the hope bringers—and thinks she may have found her answer. Alexander is sexy, sweet, and his talents are like something straight out of a Sci-Fi flick. Aislinn wonders if she may be like him, but the more she tries to fit his mold, the more her instincts scream that her destiny holds something even greater.

Teaser
“Good, now we are starting to get somewhere. Although, you are totally wrong about the Elementals; they are killers and you are blinded into thinking what they want you to see. They have never hurt you because you have aligned yourself with them but they have killed many people and you are helping them.”
She flinched as Jack’s words struck a nerve. “Lies!” she hissed before grabbing Tyler’s wrist, taking him by surprise and dislodging the gun from his grip.
All the other E.Ks raised their weapons, training their barrels on her automatically as Tyler regained his balance.
“Earth now!” she bellowed and the house began to shake as a green woman in a long flowing dress made up of ivy and spirit started to appear in front of us.
On my weakened leg I collapsed to the floor again with a scream.
The E.Ks opened fire but another Elemental took its place within seconds.
“Kai, you have to silence her. It’s like what happened with me!” I shouted over the noise as I clutched at my ankle, which was now bright red and sending sharp flashes of pain through my leg.
“Tyler, silence her,” I heard Jack roar and then everything seemed to slow down. I saw her body, limp and lifeless falling towards the floor. Her arms trailed behind her, bouncing up slightly as they collided against the dirty wooden planks with a thud.
I screamed, covering my face so as not to see what had happened. Please don’t be dead, please don’t be dead, I repeated in my mind despite what she had done to us. Shooting a person was a lot different from murdering an Elemental in my opinion.

Interview with Jade Varden

I'm delighted to host author, Jade Varden on my blog today. She was the first author to ever contact me for a review and I loved her book so much I went out and purchsed the rest of the series. If you have time, go and check out Deck of Lies!

~*~

MH: Hi Jade, thank you for agreeing to an interview! Firstly why don’t you tell us a little about yourself and what you like to do when you’re not writing?
JV: Thanks so much for having me! When I’m not writing, I like to bake. I spend days in the kitchen before every major holiday.

MH: When and what made you decide to become an author?
JV: It was a decision I made when I was 9, actually. I read a book that really struck me, and by the end of the first chapter I knew that I also wanted to tell stories.

MH: What do you enjoy most about writing?
JV: I’m always amazed by how sometimes it happens away from the page. I’ll just start creating a scene in my head, and I’ll have to run to go write it down.

MH: I’m always interested in how other authors name their characters. How and what do you use to name yours?
JV: Lots of different methods, actually. I like baby name websites a lot. Sometimes I search for names based on a meaning or on a letter, maybe a country of origin. For some characters I might choose historic names that mean something to me. And when all else fails, I start playing around with an anagram.

MH: What gave you the idea for Deck of Lies and is anything inspired by real life or people?

Only One More Week.... Cover & Blurb Reveal

There is only a week left until the release of Deadly to Promise (Elemental Killers 2)

The last few days I have been frantically filling interviews, top 5s and of course making sure the book is ready. Even though everything is coming together it feels like my to do list is getting longer rather than shorter but at least I can tick these two things off.

So, because there is only a week left, I'm excited to reveal the cover and the blurb for Deadly to Promise. Also, because I'm in a generous mood, here's a teaser as well.

This is my favourite cover in the series so I hope you like it! Feel free to share it as well :)

And remember: Deadly to Love is only 99c / 77p for a limited time only on Amazon!

Interview With Katie Hayoz ~Tour Stop + Excerpt

I'm excited to be hosting a stop of Katie Hayoz's tour for her book Untethered today. Katie has kindly done an interview with me so everyone enjoy her answers!

~*~

  1. Hi Katie, thank you for agreeing to an interview! Firstly why don’t you tell us a little about yourself and what you like to do when you’re not writing?
Thanks for having me!  I’m an American living in Switzerland – my husband is Swiss and I’ve got two daughters who have dual nationality.  Most people here are super sporty and love skiing, hiking, biking…I’m the one sitting on the side lines or in the café with a book instead.  My favourite activity is reading.  Give me a good book, a bowl of popcorn and a can of Diet Coke and I’m happy. I’m also part of the Geneva Writers’ Group where I help organize writing conferences, master classes, workshops and panels.

  1. When and what made you decide to become an author?
I don’t exactly know when I decided to be a writer.  To me, writers were much cooler than anyone else.  Powerful, even. My mom was always reading and I loved how enraptured she looked while doing so.  I wanted to have that kind of effect on people.

  1. I agree, writers are cooler :) What do you enjoy most about writing?
I’m a strange freak who loves rewriting.  I hate first drafts and I’m not crazy about polishing.  But I love to wrestle with a piece I’ve started and make it worthwhile.

  1. I’m always interested in how other authors name their characters. How and what do you use to name yours?
Ha!  Figuring out character names is almost as bad as figuring out titles for me.  I hate it!  But at least for names I can page through baby name books, go online and use random name generators or just pick something that’s stuck in my head.

  2. I know! Some name themselves and other, well I'm sure they do it deliberately. What gave you the idea for Untethered? Is anything inspired by real life or people?
Untethered was inspired both by a book and an event.  First, when I was about six, I fell down the basement stairs. Thing is, I didn’t feel the fall – I watched it.  I’d had a split second out-of-body experience.  Then, when I was a teenager I read the book Stranger With My Face by Lois Duncan.  It involved out-of-body experience called astral projection.  That’s when I thought I’d like to write my own story about a girl who leaves her body and messes everything up.

Guest post ~ Nissim Levy

Today I have author Nissim Levy who has written a guest post for you all. Enjoy!

Guest Post - Passion for Writing

When I first envisioned writing a book my goal was to communicate my scientific ideas using a non Fiction format. My ideas had not yet evolved into a hybrid of the scientific and spiritual. Writing for me was, at that time, just a means to an end. My scientific ideas were inspired by Quantum Mechanics and other aspects of modern Physics and consequently involved the interaction between mind and matter, thoughts and energy, our inner world and our outer world. However, I considered writing to be simply an inert medium of information transfer. My writing style under this spartan regime did not mirror nor contribute to the message of my writing. My writing style, unlike my ideas, did not involve the interplay between the objective and subjective or between the message and the medium. The message would influence the writing but the writing would not influence nor mirror the message. I envisioned writing a great work of non Fiction that would educate and even enlighten the readers' minds but it would be immaterial whether I communicate my ideas via the written word, mathematical equations or smoke signals.

During the following few years my scientific ideas evolved and matured and this had a marked effect on my writing style and objectives. While I initially championed the non mechanistic ideas of modern physics, I did not extend this philosophy to my writing. After my ideas evolved and matured I now welcomed my writing style into this fold. I accepted long before that the universe was not the mechanistic, clockwork universe imagined by Isaac Newton and his acolytes but now I also yearned for a richer, more interactive and less mechanistic literary style. In Quantum Mechanics the observer influences the observed. There is no external objective reality that can be expressed independently of the observer. Similarly, my writing would now influence the message just as the message dictates the writing. My writing would no longer be expressed in an austere and detached medium.

An Interview with J. A. Redmerski - Author of The Edge of Never

Today I am extremely excited to host, New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, J. A. Redmerski! After finishing The Edge of Never and The Edge of Always in the last week I couldn't believe I had waited so long to pick them up. Like I have stated before, they were so emotional and one of the rare books that brought tears to my eyes. So, it is a pleasure to welcome J.A Redmerski to my blog with her interview.

TheEdgeofNever-smallerMH: Hi J.A. it's great to have you here!  Firstly, why don't you tell my readers what you like to do in your free time besides writing?

JA: Other than flea markets, I of course love to read. I also love the outdoors (hiking, camping, biking, etc.) and I also enjoy watching my favorite television series’ (The Walking Dead, Supernatural, Being Human ‐ SyFy)

MH: I love the outdoors too - can't say I'm a fan of camping though (I need my own bed). When did you first realize that you wanted to become a writer?

JA: I started my first novel around the age of thirteen and never stopped. I’ve been writing something for twenty‐four years, whether novels or world and character building, to poetry and lyrics. Writing has been the one consistent thing throughout my life.

MH: I know how that feels. Is there a place you especially like to write?

JA: Definitely in my bedroom and preferably with my kids in school. I’ve tried writing in café’s and bookstores and even the library, but there are just too many distractions.

MH: Distractions are annoying - especially when starting out for the day. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

JA: I’m impatient. Very impatient. And when it comes to my writing, it’s no different. It’s challenging for me to get through the first 2‐3 chapters of every book I write because I have a bad habit of looking at how much I have left to write. I just want to be done with it already so that my readers can delve right in!

MH: I have the same problem! What is your favorite part of the writing process?

JA: The last sentence. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love getting into the story, living out my character’s lives and crafting their thoughts and emotions from beginning to end, but there’s nothing like a finished manuscript. It’s a huge accomplishment and I doubt I’ll ever tire of it.

MH: It's definitely a feeling that's hard to put into words. What do you do when you come down with a case of the infamous ʺwriterʹs blockʺ?
